Gregory s level is limited, and the Suns have little hope of rising

The Suns did three major things in the offseason, one was trading Durant, the other was renewing Booker, and the third was the draft. Looking back now, these three major things failed, and the team's general manager Gregory should bear full responsibility.

In May 2025, Gregory was succeeded by James Jones, the team's deputy general manager, as general manager, who became a senior advisor to the Suns.

After taking over as general manager of the Suns, Gregory immediately started to promote three major events. He traded Durant to the Rockets in exchange for Jaylen Green, Dillon, the No. 10 pick and five second-round picks. He then renewed Booker's maximum salary with a two-year contract of US$145 million, with an average annual salary of more than US$72 million. In the subsequent draft, he selected center Maluac with the No. 10 pick and Fleming with the No. 31 pick.

In the Durant trade, it is not yet certain whether there is a loss, because Jaylen Green has not played a game on behalf of the Suns; however, the maximum salary extension for Booker is indeed debatable; the two rookies, Maluachi and Fleming, who originally had high hopes, are not favored by the head coach Jordan Ott.

The Suns have such a general manager, coupled with the tossing owner Ishbia, it is simply too difficult to rise. It is right to see Durant leave now.
