Reguilon will replace Alba in the face; Miami has freed up a designated spot to strengthen

Hupu News on October 8th After Alba announced his retirement, the TA MLS team confirmed that Miami is in in-depth negotiations for a visa-free Spanish left back Sergio Reguilon.

The 28-year-old Reguilon has been a free agent since his contract with Tottenham Hotspur expired in July, and Miami Hotspur is about to finalize a transfer agreement with him.

Major League Soccer's roster freeze deadline is September 12, so unless he is exempted, Reguilon will not be able to play for Miami until the 2026 season.

Reguilon came from the Real Madrid youth academy and has played 22 times for the club's first team. After a season on loan at Sevilla, he joined Tottenham Hotspur in September 2020 and made 73 appearances for the North London club.

Alba's shocking announcement that he will retire at the end of this season, like Busquets who announced his retirement last month, means that the look of Inter Miami next season will be very different from this season.

The departures of Busquets and Alba will free up two designated player spots for the 2026 season. We know one of those will be filled by Rodrigo De Paul, whose loan option will be triggered at the end of the season, at which point he will become a clear designated player.

But Inter Miami now suddenly has the flexibility to bring an attacking player to the team without financial constraints.

What is worth watching now is whether Luis Suarez will remain in Miami next season, or whether a No. 9 player will become the first choice.

Regardless, Inter Miami has the opportunity to center a high-level winger or forward around Messi in 2026—will they look for a player in his prime to complement the legendary No. 10?
