21 million in 3 years! Can the Pacers 2.06 half-orcs replace Turner?

This summer, due to Halliburton's new season reimbursement, the Pacers did not leave Miles Turner. In order to make up for the vacancy when Turner left, the Pacers made three operations.

1. Signed a three-year contract worth $21 million with Isaiah Jackson;

2. Get J Khufu through the transaction;

3. Signed a two-year contract worth $5.69 million with James Wiseman, of which only 1 million is guaranteed in the first year, and the second year is the team option.

Currently, the Pacers can play centers with four players, Jackson, Khufu, Wiseman and Bradley. Although Jackson was in the first team in training camp, head coach Carlisle said he would not be preconceived to determine who is the new season starter. It seems that competition is still needed.

Jackson is 2.06 meters tall and has an arm span of 2.19 meters. He is a blue-collar player with top athletic ability and is regarded as the "new version of the orc."

24-25 season, Jackson averaged 16.8 minutes per game, scoring 7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1.6 blocks. Unfortunately, he suffered a tear of his right Achilles tendon after only 5 games, and was reimbursed for the season. In the three-year contract given to him by the Pacer, there are injuries protection clauses for the next two years in case he cannot reach a certain number of appearances. Therefore, next season is still very critical for Jackson.

As the No. 23 pick in the first round of 2021, Jackson from the University of Kentucky's advantage in the league is his athleticism. He has a strong all-in-one threat on the offensive end.

As the center, Jackson is still a little smaller in size, relying solely on his wingspan and explosive power. He helps him complete the protective cover in the frame protection. In addition to the threat of aerial contact, Jackson's independent offensive ability is very limited, and he does not have the ability to shoot mid-range and three-point long shots. He does not know whether he can develop his own shooting ability during his recovery. In the Pacers' system, Turner has nothing but three points. The first is space, the second is support, and the third is the protection of the frame. Jackson and Turner are not the same type of players, he can only do the work of blue-collar players.

Therefore, whether Jackson can secure the starting lineup depends on the performance of other alternative centers.

For example, Wiseman's advantage lies in his alley threat, singles at the basket, able to shoot from the outside, and sufficient size for defense to defend a big center. Obviously Wiseman has a higher upper limit. Once Wiseman has played through the preseason, he is a better No. 5 pick than Jackson.

For example, although Khufu lacks frame protection ability, the spatial attributes are similar to Turner, which can both shoot three points and assist in blocking, which depends on Khufu's status.

Bradley's blue-collar attribute does not have an advantage, and his upper limit is not high. He may be the easiest to be eliminated, or he may be the one who will be left behind in the end.

However, Wiseman and Bradley are now just non-guaranteed contracts, and he also has to compete with Mont Morris for the last place in training camp.

Jackson has participated in 36, 63, 58 and 5 games in four seasons with the Pacers. His biggest problem is how much athletic ability he has left after experiencing such a large injury of a tear in the right Achilles tendon and how much impact it has on him protecting rebounds and baskets.

The opportunity is in front of everyone. Whether you can seize it depends on your strength and luck.

Take the 24-25 season as an example. Although Wiseman joined the Pacers with a basic salary, judging from his appearance in the first game, he was used by Carlisle as Turner's first substitute. As a result, he was injured without contact and was reimbursed for the season.

Jackson had the chance to be the first substitute and fight for a bigger contract, but he only played five games and was reimbursed for the season due to injury.

Khufu originally got a chance in the Grizzlies, but the Grizzlies have a new player Edie to train in the interior, and he cannot get more playing time, so it is an opportunity to come to the Pacers.

In the past four seasons, Jackson has made a total of 34 shots outside the three-point line, hitting 7 goals and a three-point shooting percentage of 20.6%. This level is obviously unable to keep up with modern basketball.

If Jackson wants to stabilize the starting lineup, he needs to practice the three-pointer, and at least 33% is enough. The Pacers' pass and cut system needs space.
