Tebas talks about the fact that the broadcast did not show the players protesting against La Liga overseas matches: it must be related to football

Q: Why didn’t the image of La Liga players standing silently protesting for the first 15 seconds of the Miami game last weekend appear on the TV broadcast?

Tebas: We had a broadcasting policy many years ago that everything that happens on the pitch must be related to the football match itself. When something unexpected happens, when a fan breaks in, a lot of times the game continues until he's subdued, some very quickly, and we never show that footage and it's almost never given on highlights or anywhere. This is our standard and we have maintained it, nothing more.

We considered that (the player stand-off) to be an unexpected incident that we had to try to prevent. Although it was seen because we knew it would be recorded on social media, this has been our broadcast policy for 12 years.

Q: La Liga added slogans calling for peace in the Middle East before this round of games. Is this to "cover up" the players' protests?

Tebas: This is a wrong interpretation, because that weekend was also Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and it was deemed necessary to do so in view of the more recent situation (in the Middle East). But this (decision on the peaceful signs) was made before the (player protest) situation occurred because, remember, we only learned that afternoon that they were going to stand in protest. Planning an audiovisual campaign can't be done in one afternoon. That takes time. This was planned in advance.

Q: Then why were there no signs calling for peace during Friday’s game?

Tebas: Well, it should have happened because the campaign had been planned since Wednesday or Thursday. It may be a problem with the camera, because it was not expected, because it is not known whether the drone footage can show the slogan. The main camera screen is available.
