Global Sports: Brazilian Football Association Chairman Ednaldo applies to the Federal Supreme Court to revoke the recall order

05, May 16, according to a report from the Brazilian media Global Sports, the suspended Brazilian Football Association chairman Ednaldo Rodriguez applied to the Federal Supreme Court to revoke the removal ruling made by a judge in the Rio de Janeiro State Court on Thursday night local time. The application was included in the main litigation case for review of the "legality of the agreement signed between the procuratorate and the sports agency".

In a legal instrument filed on Thursday, Ednaldo's lawyers made a double request: If the Supreme Court does not support the revocation of the TJRJ ruling, it requires that the oldest vice chairman take over the post of chairman in accordance with the Brazilian Football Association's constitution. Under the terms, Ellio Menézes, 78, will temporarily take over the position of chairman.

The core dispute in the case was ruled to reinstate Ednaldo's position as chairman in January 2024, and the Supreme Court has scheduled a review of the case on May 28.

Ednaldo also filed a supplementary request: to urgently notify Judge Zefiro of the removal ruling and urged the Rio court not to issue any decision that affects the management of the Brazilian Football Association during the validity period of the temporary injunction issued by Judge Gilma Mendez in January 2024.

A judge of the Rio de Janeiro State Court formally removed Ednaldo from the post of chairman of the Brazilian Football Association on Thursday, appointing Vice Chairman Fernando Sane as the temporary receiver and ordered "starting new election procedures as soon as possible."
