Perkins: Potential players are restricted everywhere in the Warriors, but Podjemsky has gained trust

ESPN commentator Kendrick Perkins talked about the situation facing forward star Jonathan Kuminga, who is currently in restricted free agent form, in the Golden State Warriors.

Perkins said: In my opinion, it is difficult for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to make the young players with real potential shine on the team. I have only seen him care for a young player over the past few years, that is Brandin Podziemski. When dealing with players who really have the potential to be the core of the team, Cole has a completely different attitude. He seems to be limiting their performance in various places, and they often play very uncomfortable under him. So I don’t understand very much, why is all this? ! Perkins continued: I have talked to everyone who is still playing games, and they generally praise Kumingga's ceiling and future development. Our question is here, why doesn’t the team give the future to Kumingga? !

In the NBA regular season last season, Kumingga only played 47 games in 82 games, averaging 24.3 minutes per game, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks, and 1.5 turnovers and 1.9 fouls, shooting percentage of 45.4%, three-point shooting percentage of 30.5%, and free throw shooting percentage of 66.8%. In the playoffs, influenced by the tactical arrangement of the team's coaching staff, Kumingga only got 8 play opportunities in 12 games, averaging 23.4 minutes per game, with averaging 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks, and 1.6 turnovers and 1.6 fouls. His shooting percentage was 48.4%, a three-point shooting percentage of 40%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 71%.

In the NBA regular season last season, Pojmsky made a total of 64 appearances in 82 games, averaging 26.8 minutes per game, averaging 11.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 1.2 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. He shot 44.5%, three-point shooting percentage 37.2%, and free throw shooting percentage 75.8%. In the playoffs, Podjemski made a total of 12 appearances, averaging 32.1 minutes per game, averaging 11.3 points, 5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 1.5 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. His shooting percentage was 36.4%, three-point shooting percentage was 32.8%, and free throw shooting percentage was 70.8%.

In fact, Perkins's words are not unreasonable. Podjemsky is actually a good role player, but on the other hand, his upper limit is not that high. Podjemsky should be able to become a qualified rotation player and a qualified starter. He can indeed take on a lot of responsibilities in some aspects, but he will definitely not be the team's future core. Judging from Kumingga's performance in the second round of the playoffs last season against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he seems to be the only scorer in the Warriors' team at some point. If Kumingga can gain more trust and higher tactical status in the first four seasons of his career, he may be much better than he is now?
