Average 2.7 points + 31% shooting percentage! Brownie: It s stressful, a little unbearable

At the 2024 NBA Draft, Brownie James was selected by the Lakers with the 55th pick in the second round, and achieved the historic scene of "father and son on the same stage" with his father LeBron James.

However, this 20-year-old rookie with the halo of "Son of King James" has delivered a record this season, which is sad - he averaged 6.7 minutes of playing time, scored only 2.7 points, shot 31.3% from the field and 28.1% from the three-point shooting percentage, ranking last in the league in many statistics.

What is even more controversial is that the Lakers management issued a four-year, $7.9 million full guarantee contract for Brownie, far exceeding the treatment of players in the same ranking (usually a basic salary or a two-way contract).

The US media bluntly stated that this is the "most naked nepotism" in NBA history, and some fans even mocked: "Brownny's contract is the best annotation for 'relying on his father'."

Browny's NBA path is destined to be extraordinary.

In July 2023, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during training, which was once life-threatening. Despite his return after the operation, UC’s freshman season was sluggish (average of 4.8 points and 36.6% shooting), and the draft market plummeted to the end of the second round.

However, the Lakers still selected him with a valuable second round pick and gave him a full guarantee contract. It is generally believed that this is to retain LeBron James (with a maximum salary renewal of 104 million yuan in 2 years).

In a recent interview with Fox Sports, Brownie admitted: "The pressure of the rookie season makes me breathless. Every game, people are examining my every move with a magnifying glass." He revealed that he diverted his anxiety by practicing for 3 hours a day and watching the game video repeatedly, "The training hall has become my refuge."

Judging from the performance of the court, Brownie's shortcomings are clearly visible:

Poor shooting stability: the NBA's three-point shooting percentage is less than 30%, and there is even a sluggish 2 of 10 shots in a single game in the Development League;

Mediocre physical talent: a height of 1.91 meters and ordinary explosive power make it difficult for him to fight against top defenders on the defensive end;

Insufficient ball holding ability: averaging only 0.5 assists per game, and his passing vision and decision-making ability are far from meeting the standards.

Lakers coach Redick tried to position it as a "3D wing", but the effect was bleak. More often, Brownie can only appear in garbage time and is even delegated to the Development League for "leveling". The story of

Browny is a microcosm of the dilemma of the "Star II" in the NBA. He carries his father's legendary expectations, but has to prove himself in doubt.
