Before the tournament, Sinner won the last 6 official matches against Djokovic, including overwhelming matches in the semi-finals of Roland Garros and Wimbledon this season. At the Six Kings Slam, the Italian player "destroyed" his senior after just over an hour of play.
Sinner served almost perfectly, hitting 27 winners and only making 5 unforced errors. The 24-year-old lost only 8 points on serve throughout the entire match. When asked if this was his best serve, Sinner replied: "I think so. I wish it was always like this. We always try to improve. There are days when things work exceptionally well, and today was one such day. We worked a lot over the past month, serving for hours on end. If the result is like this, I'm very satisfied ".
After the match, Djokovic continued to accept that Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner - the two winners of the last 8 Grand Slams - are currently at a level that he can no longer catch up to at the age of 38. But Nole affirmed that he will continue to try to find a way to beat them.
"It's never nice when someone kicks your ass like this on the court ", Djokovic said after the match. "But I still feel great that I can still play at a high level, still in the top 10, top 5. It feels very good. I'm trying my best. I'm grateful for everything God has given me in my life. "
Considered the greatest tennis player in history with 24 Grand Slams and a series of records, Djokovic said he doesn't want to stop yet. "This journey has been incredible, the career has been amazing, there's so much to celebrate, " he said. "But I also wish someone would trade me a younger body. Just for one year, so I can keep winning against people like this. I know it's getting harder and harder to win against Sinner and Alcaraz. But I'll keep challenging them, until I do it. Let's wait and see ".
Djokovic will return to action on Saturday in the third-place match against Taylor Fritz, while Sinner advances to the final against rivals Alcaraz. After losing quickly, Djokovic added to the audience: "I'm sorry that everyone didn't get to see a longer match today. It was his fault, not mine. It felt like a train that couldn't stop. He hit the ball from every corner of the court. I just tried to stay, but he was too good. "
Each player participating in the Six Kings Slam received 1.5 million USD. The champion pocketed $6 million, with the crown equivalent to $4.5 million. The figure of 4.5 million is much higher than the singles champion at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, only 500,000 USD less than the prize money for the singles champion of the US Open.
