Hupu September 25th The start of the 2025-26 Premier League season shows that the team is increasingly inclined to use long passes (passes over 32 meters) when advancing with the ball. According to Opta statistics, the Premier League averaged 99.7 long passes per game this season, higher than the 93.4 times last season, although it is still lower than the all-time high of the 2019-20 season (104.4 times).

In terms of players, Bournemouth's Senesi has made the most of long passes this season, with a total of 73 times, ranking first in the Premier League. The increase in long passes means that the average duration of each ball possession is shortened. Last season, each Premier League team lasted 10.4 seconds per ball possession, with an average advance of 12.6 meters; while this season it dropped to 9.6 seconds, with an average advance of 12.1 meters (a new low in the past decade). Teams tend to advance quickly rather than control the rhythm of the game through continuous short passes.
