Petit: If Manchester United wants to invite Zidane, they must meet two major conditions

According to former French international Pettit, if Zidane wants to take over Manchester United, two key conditions must be met.

Zidane has long been regarded as a potential candidate for Manchester United head coach. Now, current coach Ruben Amorin has only scored 28 points in 29 Premier League games, and his coaching ability is being widely questioned, and discussions about Zidane's possible takeover have heated up again.

Petit said that if Manchester United wants to convince the legendary star to come out, they must first solve two core issues. He revealed: "First of all, the quality of the player lineup. Zidane attaches great importance to this and will evaluate every signing choice very carefully. Secondly, the club's working environment. The current internal situation within Manchester United is considered far from meeting Zidane's standards. If he decides to take over, it must have come with a clear revival plan, not just filling the vacancy."

Since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, Zidane has been unemployed at home. During his coaching at the Bernabeu, he led Real Madrid to win three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles, achieving unprecedented three consecutive Champions League titles.

In September 2024, Zidane publicly explained why he rejected Manchester United: "My English level is very limited and I cannot communicate fluently, so I chose to refuse." This shows that language and cultural acculturation are important factors in his consideration of coaching Premier League teams.

Now, Petit's remarks suggest that Zidane may no longer regard language as the only obstacle, but is more concerned about whether the club can provide a platform for his ambitions.

At present, Zidane is generally regarded as the number one favorite candidate for the head coach of the French national team. It is reported that the current coach Deschamps plans to leave after the 2026 World Cup, which paves the way for Zidane to return to France.

Meanwhile, if Amorin is eventually fired, Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner and former England coach Gareth Southgate are also considered potential candidates to replace him. However, for Manchester United, who is eager to rebuild, the football legend can only become the helm of the "Red Devils" when the club can truly meet Zidane's high standards for the squad and environment.
