On July 22, local time in Mexico City, the Mexican Super League Cougar Club officially completed the transfer of former Real Madrid meritorious goalkeeper Kylor Navas. The player was originally from the Old Boys Club in Newell, Argentina. The transfer was finally finalized after several weeks of ups and downs.

Coloons pursued Navas after the transfer window opened this summer, but the high asking price of the old boy in Newell once put the deal on the verge of breaking down. The 38-year-old Costa Rica Gate made clear his desire to join Mochao so he could get closer to his family, which prompted Newell to finally accept a Cougar's offer of about $2 million.

Newell Old Boys Club confirmed Navas' departure in an official statement: "Kylor Navas will no longer belong to the club's professional team lineup, and he will continue his career with the Mexican Cougars." The statement emphasized that this decision is based on the principle of maintaining the team's collective program, in which "the spirit of commitment, professional qualities and respect for club values are unshakable cornerstones", and pointed out that "to achieve competitive and humanistic goals, every member needs to be united in heart and morality and always put collective interests above the individual."

The tough-worded statement was released the day before Navas refused to play in Newell's game against Benfield. It is reported that Navas made a request to coach Christian Fabiani not to play after completing pre-match warm-up training, a move seen as the fuse for the breakdown of the relationship between the two sides.

Cougars have been operating Navas' transfer since early June. As negotiations were once deadlocked, the team was forced to use 17-year-old rookie goalkeeper Rodrigo Para as the starter after the start of the 2025 fall league of the Mexican Super League. However, this emergency plan was not effective. Pala's mistakes in the first two rounds of the league led to the team's consecutive defeats, conceding six goals in two games.

Navas's franchise is the key move in the Cougars' transfer market this summer. The three-time Champions League champion will become the most popular signing for the Metz Super League this season, along with former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who joined this summer. Cougars coach Evrain Juarez also introduced Ecuador international midfielder Pedro Witt last week.

The Cougars, who had a bad start, look forward to the arrival of Navas to help the team reverse the decline. Signing the goalkeeper widely regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in history in Central and North America and the Caribbean is undoubtedly an exciting news for the Cougars and the entire Mexican Football League.
