Herzel: Arsenal are the favorites to win the title but the cup competition is 50-50. Arteta knows everything about the Premier League

After the weekend's game, does the team have any new injury problems?

I think it’s just James Milner. He has some minor muscle problems so he won't be able to play tomorrow. Kaoru Mikasa, Veltman, Hinshelwood and Gruda are recovering, but I don’t think they will make the roster tomorrow.

Arsenal has started the season very strongly. How do they perform from your perspective? Do you think they are favorites to win the title?

The standings speak for themselves, they performed well. They are very good off the ball and at set pieces, which is a key factor in their success. They are very disciplined and everyone works hard on both ends of the floor. It will be a huge challenge for us to deal with these set pieces. We don't know yet if Gabriel will feature tomorrow, but he seems to be strong at set pieces.

How do you defend such a powerful player?

It is impossible to defend him one-on-one. Secondly, not only Gabriel, but their overall movement is also very coordinated. They do a good job of covering each other and have a good synergy pattern. On the other hand, our defensive numbers are pretty good as well. We are also working hard to develop a defensive culture, but this takes time and does not happen overnight. But we are confident that we can defend their set pieces.

You mentioned set-piece culture, a topic that has been discussed a lot recently, especially over the weekend. As far as I know, 19% of goals in the Premier League come from corners and 35% from set pieces. Does this trend surprise you?

That doesn't surprise me this season. I think it's just a natural progression, with set pieces becoming more and more important. You need to adapt, but also find the characteristics of your team.

Would you consider bringing in a player who is good at long throws?

If you don't have a set piece team, you can't build a set piece team just by relying on long throws. If you are a possession-based team trying to use possession to deal with high pressure and low defense, then you need to stick to your own style. In the long run, you have to believe in your own characteristics. If you suddenly say the long toss is working great for us and try to do it but you don't really believe it, it's not going to work out in the long term. The key is to make fine adjustments and adapt to different situations.

Do you only develop young players for long throws, corners and free kicks?

I'm not sure. You're making them better.

You have already played against strong teams such as Manchester City and Chelsea this season. How to prepare against this Arsenal?

Believe in our strength and our style of play. Just do the basics, play bravely, and defend well as a team.

The club has not reached the League Cup quarter-finals for 45 years. Is this an incentive for players to break new records?

Cup games are always a big motivator because they give you the chance to win the championship. Arsenal are favorites tomorrow, but cup games are always 50-50. You always have a chance. We drew with them twice last season and that gave us confidence but it didn't mean we would advance. They are the best team in the league but we have to believe in our ability to beat them. If it goes into a penalty shootout, we are ready. Not only do we practice penalty kicks today, we practice them every day.

Former Brighton midfielder Leandro Trossard could feature in Arsenal's squad on Wednesday. How would you rate the form of former Brighton player Trossard?

I can only evaluate him from the perspective of a player, not as a person. He is excellent on both ends of the floor and has the ability to beat any opponent one-on-one on the offensive end.

Arteta has played for Everton and Arsenal for many years. Does this give him an advantage in his current job?

There are always advantages and disadvantages. He has a lot of experience and knows everything it takes to play in the Premier League. I've gained that experience over the last year and a half, especially with the help of my senior players, but I've also had help from the assistant coaches, the staff and the athletic director. They all know how to play in the Premier League. I'm a good listener and then I adapt gradually.
