Paris Saint-Germain signed a new central defender with 67 million euros

August 8, 2025 News - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won another goal in the summer transfer window, signing Ukrainian international central defender Ilia Zabarney from Bournemouth Club, with the transfer fee reaching 67 million euros.

According to well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Bournemouth club has accepted the offer from Paris Saint-Germain. As early as mid-July, the Ukrainian defender had reached a personal agreement with the Ligue 1 giants.

Zabarney will sign a five-year contract with Paris, and the salary part in the details of the new contract has not been announced yet. To ensure that he can integrate into the team in time, Paris is speeding up the arrangement of a physical examination for him and striving to complete all registration procedures before the European Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on August 14.

The urgency of this signing comes from Milan Skriniar's departure this summer, and Paris urgently needs to strengthen its right-footed central defender position. And Zabarni is regarded as the ideal candidate. In the 2024/25 Premier League season, he played all the games as the core of Bournemouth's defensive team, and did not miss any game, showing strong stability and professional qualities.

It is worth mentioning that Zabarney is not Paris's only major signing this summer. Previously, the club had signed goalkeeper Lucas Schevalier from Lille for nearly €40 million. This move also reflects Paris' concerns about the prospect of renewing the contract by main goalkeeper Gianluigi Donaluma, and makes reserves for the goalkeeper's position in advance.

According to French "League", Zabarni and Schwarier will become the "final work" of Paris' signing this summer. Coach Louis Enrique is satisfied with the team's current staffing in the midfield and forward line, and has no intention of carrying out large-scale reinforcements in the short term. Next, the club's focus will shift to clearing redundant staff and selling players who are not in the tactical plan to optimize the roster structure and balance the finances.
