Carragher: Eddie Howe faces difficulties at Newcastle and could be poached if the club can t support him

November 23 Carragher wrote an analysis in a column that although Newcastle coach Eddie Howe has led Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League twice and win the club's first domestic trophy in 70 years in 2025, management turmoil is weakening the results of his efforts and his future at Newcastle has become uncertain.

Carragher talked about the worrying statistics and personnel changes within Newcastle. The team had a difficult start to the Premier League this season, winning only 3 games in 11 rounds. Even more damaging is the decline in key statistics: last season the team outdistanced its opponents in 53% of its games, while this season that percentage plummeted to 27%. Additionally, they have conceded more points from leading situations than any Premier League team, even more than last season combined.

Chaos at the top of the team is seen as the main reason. The club has had three sporting directors in four years: Dan Ashworth left after two years, Paul Mitchell resigned after only one year due to criticism of the recruitment policy, and the current one is former Nottingham Forest's Ross Wilson. At the same time, commercial director Peter Silverstone has been suspended with pay, exposing the club's difficulties in increasing revenue and retaining people.

On player transfers, Carragher specifically mentioned the inside story behind Isaac's insistence on moving to Liverpool. The striker refused to participate in training in the summer window to promote the transfer. Although Carragher criticized him as "unacceptable", his eventual departure also strengthened Newcastle's weak image of finding it difficult to refuse high offers from competitors. In addition, Eddie Howe lamented the outstanding performances of Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest and Minter at Brighton. Carragher pointed out that it was short-sighted for the club to blame the two sales on PSR rules, and that Anderson could have been retained by selling other midfielders.

Eddie Howe is currently regarded by the Football Association as the top candidate for the future England national team coach. Carragher reminded that if Newcastle cannot match Eddie Howe's ambition to reach the top, the top coach may be poached by a team that can provide a better platform.
