On October 19, there are still three days left before the start of the new NBA regular season. According to US media reports, James' partner Maverick Carter and investors have withdrawn from the original plan to invest US$5 billion in the project to create an NBA competitive league and will switch to a women's league to compete with the WNBA.

In the summer, James met with Jokic’s agent Misko Raznatovic and partner Maverick Carter. At first, US media speculated that this was a meeting about basketball cooperation or free agent recruitment, but Raznatovich later said that they were discussing a more ambitious plan: James and business partner Maverick Carter were negotiating with investors to establish a new basketball league based in Europe and aimed at competing with the NBA.

However, this plan was not realized. Earlier today, US media reported that Maverick Carter and investors had withdrawn from the original $5 billion project to create an NBA competitive league and instead focused on creating a women's basketball league that could compete with the WNBA.

This new league is called "Project B" and is planned to be launched in the fall of 2026. It will adopt a city tour model similar to F1 and LIV Golf, covering major cities in Asia, Europe and America. Former WNBA stars Candace Parker, Lauren Jackson and Alana Beard also participated. Alana Beard also serves as chief basketball officer. Specific details have yet to be announced. As the WNBA collective bargaining agreement negotiations progress, the competitive landscape of the women's basketball market may change.
