Gerard Wallace was born in Serracoa, Alabama. He was selected by the Kings with the 25th pick in the first round in 2001. Although he had few opportunities to enter the league, he became the cornerstone of the expansion team Charlotte Bobcats in 2004 with his outstanding athleticism and fighting spirit. He won the league steals king in 2006, was selected as the All-Star in 2010 and ranked among the best defensive team. He was selected as the McDonald's All-American Lineup and Parade All-American First Team, showing outstanding dominance at the basket and three-point shooting range. In the 2001 draft, Wallace joined the Kings with the 25th pick, wearing the No. 45 jersey. He has limited appearances in a deep lineup, but he has attracted the league's attention with the runner-up of the 2002 Slam Dunk Contest. Wallace quickly rose after being signed by the Bobcats in the offseason in the 2004 expansion draft. The Bobcats averaged 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks in their debut season. He further grew in the 2005-06 season, averaging 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting percentage of 54.1%, steals 2.44 and blocks 2.19, becoming the league's steal king in 2006. In 20010, Wallace was selected as the NBA All-Star for his stable offensive and defensive performance and was selected as the best defensive team of the year. In the 010-11 season, he still averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
