On May 6, in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Cavaliers were already behind 0-1, and now they are facing serious player injuries when preparing for their second game with the Pacers.

Garland (toe injury), Mobley (ankle injury) and Hunter (thumb injury) play in G2 are doubtful. Cavaliers head coach Atkinson said he was indeed "very worried" about whether the latter two players could play, and when talking about their situation after training, he also used the statement "unlikely to play".

Mobley and Hunter were injured in two consecutive rounds in the fourth quarter of Game 1. With 8 minutes and 10 seconds left, Mobley made a two-point jump shot in the inside and landed in awkward position. His left foot stepped on the feet of Pacers center Miles Turner and then fell to the ground. After the game, Mobley limped in the Cavaliers locker room.

In the next offensive round of the Cavaliers, Hunter rushed to the basket with 7 minutes and 44 seconds left, but was blocked by Pacers guard Mathurin. Hunter fell heavily to the ground, the Cavaliers called a timeout, and Atkinson challenged the penalty, but the referee team determined that there was no foul in this offense and the penalty on the court remained unchanged.

Atkinson expressed dissatisfaction with the failure to call fouls in both of the decisions, and he believed that these two defensive moves were beyond the reasonable range of physical confrontation.

Atkinson said: "I don't think it was a malicious foul, but I think those moves have exceeded the normal boundaries of physical confrontation. We've been discussing this boundary all the time, and those two moves were obviously overdoing. I don't think it's a Pacers' problem, I respect their way of playing very much. But the fact is, it's a question for the referees. Maybe those aren't misjudgments, maybe I misunderstood the rules, but when we have two best players who are likely to be unable to play in the next game, I feel that something is wrong. I really can't understand this."

Then, Atkinson clarified that all three players' playing states will be classified as being a question, saying that the official definition of their state "is just a difference in statements."

The Cavaliers, the top seed in the East, lost their first game 112-121 at home, and Garland's playing state is not sure. Garland has missed three consecutive playoff games due to injury to his left toe. The Cavaliers conducted video analysis and light shooting training on Tuesday, and Atkinson said it was difficult to tell whether Garland could play in Game 2.

But the Cavaliers' injury roster is still getting longer, and the team may lack three key rotation players in the G2 game.

Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen said: "It's a heavy blow, but I think we understand that our current players can play well anyway. We did it in the series against the Heat. I'm not going to always mention the past, but we have the ability to overcome difficulties with existing players in the absence of major generals. Kenny has been saying all year long that we have a good lineup. We have a lot of players who can stand up at critical moments."
