NBA offseason has passed, and many teams have completed reinforcement transactions. The Hawks and Magic made small adjustments in the East, while the Rockets are obviously the biggest winner this summer. After introducing Durant, they directly raised the team's ceiling; the Nuggets and the Clippers have collected puzzles for the championship to supplement the depth of the lineup. It can be foreseen that with the absence of serious injuries from Tatum, Lillard and Halliburton, the competitiveness of the East has dropped sharply; on the contrary, after the strengthening of these Western teams, the competition has become increasingly fierce, and no one can tell who can finally break out of the division!

However, as a traditional giant in the West, the Warriors are extremely frustrated this offseason. As of today, the Warriors have become the only team in the league to operate zero offseason. The end of August should have been the season for new players to debut, but the team has zero signings in the offseason so far because of the 21-year-old star's contract deadlock.

Previously, the Warriors management provided a two-year, $45 million contract. The 21-year-old young forward, Kumingga and his team decisively refused - the second-year team option means that the team can cut him at any time and may become a bargaining chip.

"I want to be the cornerstone, not a pawn." According to ESPN team reporter Slater, this is the core position conveyed by Kumingga's team to the Warriors' management. His team even directly declared to the public: If the quotation is not increased, they would rather sign a quotation of $7.9 million a year and leave directly next summer. The contract renewal negotiations between the two sides have also turned into an open confrontation. "The teams of both sides (Kuminga and the Warriors) have not communicated for weeks," a league source revealed. "Kuminga is determined to take the risk: spend the year and leave as a free agent next summer!"

In fact, as early as October last year, NBA reporter Brett Siegel reported that the Warriors gave Kuuminga a five-year, $150 million contract extension, but Kuuminga did not accept it at the time (thinking that he deserves the maximum salary). However, in the late season and playoff performance, Kumingga completely said that his value was gone. Last season, Kumingga averaged only 15 points and 4 rebounds per game, with a three-point shooting rate as low as 30.5%, and the problem of missing people on the defensive end was frequent.

Therefore, the Warriors directly took a tough stance in the offseason and only gave a two-year, $45 million contract. More importantly, Kumingga's NBA market is also bleak - the free market has been in operation for more than two months, and no team has offered a maximum salary quote for Kumingga. Even the most active suitor, the Kings, are only willing to provide an annual contract of $21 million, which is even lower than the actual value of the Kings' own defender Monk.

Therefore, Kumingga's team also reduced its initial maximum salary to requesting a three-year, $82 million contract during the offseason, and after being rejected by the Warriors, it dropped to a three-year, $63 million contract. However, the Warriors insisted on providing only two-year and unsecured contracts for the second year, resulting in the breakdown of the negotiations between the two sides and a few weeks of the Cold War deadlock.

And just recently, Warriors reporter Anthony Slater's latest report said that the Warriors and Kumingga and their team have restarted negotiations, and the two sides are still discussing the contract plan. However, both sides completely broke up and no longer hide, directly expressing their respective positions. Kumingga and his team hope that he will become the cornerstone of the team and will reach a contract that will make him more stable than simply trade chips.

, and when Kumingga was a guest at the San Francisco Chronicle, he directly claimed that he had reached the level of Cunningham and Scotty Barnes, and deserved the respect and matching contracts they had. Interestingly, in the 2021 NBA draft, both the five rookies before Cumingga and the players behind him have already won big contracts (Cunningham and Mobley in 5 years 269 million, Barnes and Wagner Jr. in 5 years 224 million, Sages in 5 years 150 million, Jaylen Green in 3 years 105 million, etc.).

But obviously, the Warriors management does not think so, and they have been hesitant about the requirements of Kumingga's team. The tactical differences between Cole's coaching staff and Kumingga have always existed - at the end of the regular season, Kumingga ignored Curry's request for the ball and chose to do it alone, and then Kumingga was directly hidden. This is just a game scene, and judging from Kumingga's current public dissatisfaction, he still does not realize his positioning problem. And this is also the Warriors' biggest concern.

However, the deadline for restricted free agents to accept qualification quotes is October 1, and it seems that both the Warriors and Kumingga still have plenty of time. However, for the Warriors, if the Kumingga problem is delayed until the end of September, they will face the crisis of double loss of talent: although Horford and Melton reached an oral agreement with the Warriors, the delay in signing the contract does not rule out that they may find another team; Curry and Payton Jr. are also waiting for the Cumingga incident to be settled.

It has to be said that there is always one party that needs to compromise in this negotiation deadlock. For the team, the collapse of the talk is just a loss of a player, but for the team Kumingga, it is a bet on his entire career. If he cannot recognize the situation, even if Curry helps him, he will not be able to help him.
