Analysts defend Brown: He is unfair to judge him by supporting cast members, Phauser needs to stand up

In Jaylen Brown's career, he is facing unprecedented pressure. Some analysts question whether he can reach his teammate Tatum's level of playing field contribution. However, NBA analyst Jeff Goodman believes that the criticism of Brown is not fair given the Boston Celtics' current "incomplete" supporting cast.

Goodman explained: "There are five big players in the team without Tatum, Holiday, and Porzingis, but this inside combination may be one of the worst inside configurations we have ever seen in the NBA, and Jaylen Brown has to be the team's number one core in such a lineup."

"This supporting role lineup is really not good. So, is it meaningful to discuss fairness now? In the past few years, I have also been one of the people who criticized Jaylen Brown, but now I must say: Is it fair to judge his performance based on the supporting role team he will face this year?"

Goodman believes that the outside world should not only focus on whether Brown's leadership is qualified, but should turn its attention to other players in the Celtics who need to prove themselves. He specifically pointed out that Prichard and Hauser are under tremendous performance pressure.

"Is Pritchard capable of performing a rotation role that is averaging 30 minutes per game? Hauser now has to assume certain core responsibilities in the team. He is no longer the marginal player who stands in the corner and no one pays attention to. In this case, can he be competent to perform 25 minutes per game?" Goodman raised such a question.

Last season, Pritchard was elected the sixth man in the NBA, but he may have to take on a more important role in the new season and will also attract more defensive attention from his opponents; and Hauser has usually appeared as a rotation player before, and may compete with Buchel for the starting forward position in the new season. These two players will be Brown's main helpers. Brown has maintained a scoring level of 20+ per game for several consecutive seasons, and he still needs to work hard to maintain this performance in the new season. Therefore, Prichard and Hauser's growth rate and state stability will largely determine the Celtics' competitiveness ceiling for the new season.
