Adams and the Rockets reach a three-year contract renewal, continuing the journey to Housing City

June 15, 2025 Sources told ESPN that Houston Rockets center Steven Adams has agreed to renew a three-year, $39 million contract to stay with the team.

Sources said Rockets' management and Adams's agent at Wasserman negotiated the new, fully guaranteed contract until 2028.

Adams will turn 32 next month and he was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He is a key priority for the Rockets after Houston played a key rotation and leadership role in his first playoffs since 2020. Adams expressed his hope to stay with the Rockets for a long time, and Houston management also reached an agreement today with equal enthusiasm.

This deal takes one of the top centers away from the free agent market, and also makes the Rockets' lineup more stable, at least ensuring the experience of their team players. Adams must renew his contract with the Rockets by June 30. Sources say Houston now has to make a decision on guard Fred VanVleet’s $44.9 million team option by June 29 and has a shared interest in reunion. But they also met for about three years to renew the contract of 100,000,000, instead of executing the 44,900,000 contract.

After missing the entire 2023-24 season due to knee surgery, Adams has played 58 games this season and averaging 22.1 minutes per game in the playoffs. He is a key part of the regional defense, sometimes confusing the Warriors in the first round series with the Warriors; the Rockets were positive 44 points on the field against the Golden State Warriors and negative 44 points off the field.

As a veteran of 11 NBA seasons, Adams is a prolific offensive rebounder who leads the NBA in offensive rebounding percentage and helps the Rockets become the top team on the offensive line this season.
